After spending a number of years representing haute couture brands across the state of Texas, veteran optician and Houston native Fabio Pineda II realized that eyewear fashionistas in his city had few options for high-end shopping. There were plenty of respected and reliable opticians taking appointments, he recalls. But “they were treating eyewear as a medical device and not as a fashion accessory.” In a city like Houston, where personalized boutique shopping is de rigueur for the well-heeled, it was hard to believe that no optician offered a customized luxury experience for lovers of premium brands.
Inspired by the boutique showrooms he had visited while working as an ambassador for some of the industry’s top names in eyewear fashion, he decided to create a new type of shopping experience by combining his optician practice with a high-end eye glasses boutique.
And thus was born Eye Boutique on Washington in Rice Military. “We wear eyeglasses on our face,” says Fabio. “It’s the first thing that people notice about you. Why wouldn’t you want something fashionable to be on your face?” “It’s like going into a Gucci or Louis Vuitton boutique,” says Fabio, comparing it to the shops you might visit on Rodeo Drive or Monte Napoleone. “When you come in,” says Fabio, “we block off the time for you. The store is all yours. And we give all of our clients the ‘red carpet’ treatment, including Champagne, Italian coffees, and pastries.”
“You get to shop at your own pace. And you get your eyes checked,” he points out.
Not only does the staff fill out all required forms for clients. They also provide shoppers with background on the heritage of brands that Eye Boutique carries.
Despite the challenges of opening a new business during the pandemic, Fabio is already seeing a great return on his investment as his customers are lining up for appointments.
“We take care of the other stuff,” notes Fabio, “so you can enjoy the shopping experience.”
Although walk-ins are accepted when Eye Boutique isn’t serving one of its regular clients, appointments are highly recommended.
